More Scary Stuff.

I read in the paper last week that fifteen of lovely modernising David Cameron's front bench were Old Etonians. I was shocked, to some extent because I mistook this to be the Shadow Cabinet, which numbers around twenty.

But Peter Hitchen's documentary last night quoted almost the same figure; on his reckoning it's thirteen.

Mrs Mishmash [who used to work in politics] put me right on my terminology. The front bench is the Cabinet [or in this case the Shadow Cabinet] and their junior Ministers; a total of about fifty.

So somewhere between a quarter and a third of the proposed Tory government went to one tiny school, and played one weird kind of football.

That's not modernisation; that's just scary.

Depressing isn't it, when they're all the same age as you? Never mind not getting to be an architect - they never let us be politician's either... we never dared to dream... We could have a party each by now...

ah but remember those who did want to be politicans? living scared little lives that would later stand up to the microscope of public scrutiny? They may have dreamed, but they dreamed small and in sepia.

I personally have no problem with a monoculture of entitled, authoritarian closet cases running the country. It has to be better than the 'chip on their shoulders' mob of Prescott et al. They have so much less to prove, which is never a bad thing.

mind - I don't actually live in the country and my views are based entirely on the occasional glimpses of the Daily Mail in the Virgin Lounge at JFK. Britain is going to hell in a Bosnian handbasket by all accounts.
